Objective
Students
-are able to handle export and import activities in a company
-know the meaning of Incoterms
-are familiar with different ways of payment in foreign trade and can choose the most suitable
-can draw up contracts concerning foreign trade
-can make instructions for forwarding and custom clearance

Location and time
Autumn 2024. Lectures according to schedule. Place: Vaasa campus, Wolfsskavägen 33. Kursstart 3.9.2024.

Teaching methods
To give the student the knowledge and ability of handling international trade issues such as export and import management. She/he gets familiar with the following issues: export or import process, incoterms, documents, transportation and customs.
- Practically manage transactions related to export and import in a company
- To know the meaning of Incoterms
- Have the ability to prepare documents that are needed in foreign trade
- Have readiness to implement instructions needed in forwarding and customs clearance
Teaching methods:
Lectures, group works and -discussions.
Exam schedules
Exam date will be announced at cours start.
Retakes according to the Novia calendar for official retake exams.
Student workload
135 h of which 60 h lectures, assignments and literature studies in addition.

Basic understanding of incoterms
General picture of different ways of payment in foreign trade
General picture of the shipping and customs clearance process and the documents needed for foreign trade
Students have the ability to retrieve information from various sources and understand the importance of the accuracy and reliability of the information.
Students can act ethically and communicate professionally.
Students are aware of issues related to sustainability and responsible action in international trade.

Good knowledge of different ways of payment in foreign trade
Students are familiar with the most common documents used in foreign trade, freight forwarding and customs clearance.

Excellent understanding of incoterms

Course Assessments:
Exam (40 p) - compulsory - 60% of course grade
Grading
Grade 1(20-24), 2(25-28), 3(29-32), 4(33-36), 5(37-40)
Group work/assignments (1-5)- 40% of course grade
