Objective
The course covers the basic concepts of electricity and magnetism. Students learn how to analyze simple DC and AC circuits.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
- Can calculate the force on a charge in an electric or magnetic field.
- Can interpret electric and magnetic fields graphically.
- Knows how voltage sources, resistors and capacitors act in a circuit.
- Can calculate the resistance of a conductor.
- Can calculate the heat effect in a resistor.
- Can calculate currents and voltages in simple circuits.
- Is familiar with the induction phenomenon and its main applications.
- Understands the meaning of central AC concepts.
- Can calculate voltage and current using impedances.
- Can calculate with the power factor.

- Can determine the electric fields for simple geometries and magnetic fields for simple components.
- Can sketch electric and magnetic fields based on charge distributions and currents.
- Can calculate resistance and capacitance for serial and parallel connections.
- Can take into account the internal resistance in a voltage source.
- Can calculate potential in circuits.
- Can use Lenz's law and calculate induced emf.
- Can analyze AC curves with phase shifts graphically.
- Can calculate the impedance for simple RLC circuits.

- Can calculate electric and magnetic fields with the superposition principle.
- Can calculate current and voltage in combined series and parallel connections of resistors.
- Can calculate transients in DC circuits.
- Can use phasor diagrams.
