Descriptions

The Degree program in graphic design provides the students with knowledge in the broad area of graphic idesign with an emphasis on visual communication.

A lot of emphasis is put on general creative exercises. Students learn to present their ideas visually, in writing and orally. The studies include, among other things, typography, communication theory, design Management, drawing, composition, photo and moving image. Other areas included are illustration, information design and branding.

Practical applications are interspersed with theoretical studies in all areas of graphic design. A large part of the studies are project-based, which gives a good insight into the profession and good contacts to the professional field of graphic design.

The internship periods cover about 20 working weeks and during this period students work with professionals or at design agencies.

After a degree in graphic design, graduates can work with among others, concept planning and design of printed materials, advertising, web and packaging, either as self-employed or graphic designers at an advertising or media agency.

Students have the opportunity to be a member of the National Association of Graphic Designers, Grafia ry. (Visuaalisen viestinnän suunnittelijoiden järjestö graphia ry/Grafia − Association of Visual Communication Designers in Finland) as junior members.
