Soil Mechanics and FoundationsLaajuus (3 cr)
Code: BYR22BH03
Credits
3 op
Objective
The student:
- understands the importance of geotechnology in all construction work
- is aware of how the substructure is made and how it behaves when the foundation is laid
- understands the importance of making a geotechnical survey in order to be able to choose a sustainable, environmentally sound and economical foundation laying method.
Content
- Building geology, soil and bedrock, soils, structure of the material, deformation and shear strength
- Basic research methods
- Basic methods
- Ramp, frost insulation, radon and drainage
The student first forms an overall picture of how the subsurface is constructed and how it can be explored by probing, soil sampling and determining the groundwater level in the field and index properties in the laboratory. Subsequently, the students deepen themselves in basic methods and how the subsoil behaves when expanding for selection and design of foundation alternatives.
