Objective

The student:
- understands the material properties, possibilities and limitations of different building materials and is familiar with the most common building materials (conrete, wood, steel, bricks) used in Finland
- understands how the choice of materials affects the design of a building
- knows the most common frame solutions in Finland
- have an overview of the environmental impact of the various building materials
- understands material and drawing symbols in building and construction drawings

Content

- the most common building materials, their properties and common frame solutions for buildings in Finland
- both historical and modern techniques of building houses
- basics of drawing technique
- material studies in complementary building parts and surface materials
