The student will:

- understand the importance of aseptic working methods
- employ safe working methods
- be able to assess the patient’s caring needs, plan for interventions, implement nursing activities and demonstrate clinical nursing skills related to medical and surgical nursing, under supervision and with increasing independence
- be able to produce a written documentation of nursing care and the patient’s condition, under supervision and with increasing independence
- be able to verbally report nursing activities and the patient’s condition
-implement the underlying principles of medical and surgical nursing care at different wards
- obtain evidence-based knowledge about common diseases, and an understanding of the pharmacological treatment of the patient
- be able to perform safe drug administration under supervision

Internal medicine / surgical care practices can be practiced in social and health care areas. For example, the municipalities' general medical departments, the municipalities' bed-wards, local hospitals, central hospitals, outpatient care, home hospitals, home health care, advanced home care, prehospital care / ambulance, emergency room, cohort's reception, children's wards, private healthcare providers.

Teaching methods

Made as paid summer work without supervision from the school.

Exam schedules

38 h/week. 2 week. Total 154 h.
The summer internship documents were submitted to moodle no later than week 35

Completion alternatives

Course responsible teachers approve the internship and validate after the summer.
The practice is 4 weeks and the students do an average of 38 h / week.
A signed work list must be submitted to moodle no later than week 35.
Internship report / Learning diary written and submitted on moodle no later than week 35.
