This Degree Programme in Structural Engineering is based on requirements for the scope of studies in building technology and design of exceptionally demanding mainly wooden structures and buildings. Educational requirements in building mechanics and building physics, in order to have sufficient competence for exceptionally demanding structures and buildings are met. This degree programme meets the educational requirements of the Ministry of the Environment instructions on building designers' competence MM2 / 601/2015 and FISE's requirements for designers of load-bearing structures.
This degree programme deals also with fire dimensioning, stiffening and sound technology in wooden structures as well as the climate footprint and life cycle calculations of wooden buildings.
An important goal in this degree programme is that it prepares you to take a central role in creating sustainable and climate-smart buildings. Issues related to sustainability and a more climate-smart society are included in the courses. Of the UN's 17 goals for sustainable development according to AGENDA 2030 objectives 3 (Good health and well-being), 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 12 (Responsible consumption and production) and 13 (Climate action) are most central in this further education.
The studies in this degree programme comprise 60 ECTS (30 ECTS of courses and 30 ECTS of the thesis) and are completed in two years. The thesis work is realized as a research and development project related to working life. The degree title is Master of Engineering.
The student
- is able to participate efficiently as a structural designer in a project team for the structural design of wooden (or with alternative courses concrete or steel) structures for demanding buildings and constructions.
- is able to take a central role in creating sustainable and climate-smart buildings.
- is be able to work in a scientific way and use reference material and external sources of knowledge, in research and development projects related to working life.
This further education is based on the requirements for the design competence of demanding and exceptionally demanding structures. The criteria are based on the Land Use and Building Act and the Ministry of the Environment's guidelines on the eligibility of building designers MM2 / 601/2015, as well as the FISE qualification requirements for designers of load-bearing structures.
