Objective

Student
- can specify and evaluate the most common qualitative and quantitative research methods
- can reproduce the research process and apply the different phases of the research process
- can use different methods for qualitative data collection and data analysis in care research
- can use the most common methods for quantitative data collection and analysis
- can make simple statistical calculations and tests
- has readiness to independently and under supervision carry out thesis work and development work
- has knowledge of different care theories and care models and their areas of application
- can apply health theories and care models in different care settings
- has the ability to analyze scientific knowledge and can apply the knowledge in the care work
- can reflect on how evidence-based knowledge can be applied in the care work

Lectures:
Nursing/midwifery/ public health theory + qualitative method 2x 4h lectures and exersices + 4h practical exercises + 4h seminar theory

Exam schedules

Quantitative method: the assignment has to be submitted within a month after the end of this part of the course
Nursing/ midwiery or Public health theory: submission online and evaluation of written assignment (PP) and presentation at seminar.
Quantitative methods: submission online and evaluation of individual and group work

Student workload

Nursing theory is 1cr which is equivalent to 27 hours of which 6h are scheduled lectures and seminars and the rest is the students' own work
Qualitative research methodology is 3 cu which is equivalent to 67 hours work of which 10h are scheduled lectures and the rest is the students' own work and group work, the assignment is submitted on Moodle
Quantitative research methodology is 2 cr which is equivalent to 54 hours work of which 12 are scheduled lectures and seminars and the rest is the students' own work. assignment is submitted on a agreed date after the lectures.

Criteria for evaluation of the exam
The student has a superficial knowledge of the subject (by heart reading)

Assessment criteria for written work
The student has followed the instructions and their knowledge of the other students' work is inadequate. The student shows limited substance knowledge, can be essential.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Criteria for evaluation of the exam
The student can account for the literature, reflect and motivate his / her views

Assessment criteria for written work
The student has followed the instructions for the written work and shows insufficient knowledge about the other students' written work. The student master the substance of his work, but the application is limited

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Criteria for evaluation of the exam
The student shows in his answer an in-depth knowledge and maturity beyond the traditional

Criteria for evaluation of written work individually or in groups
The student has followed the instructions for the written work and shows that she has mastered the substance. They have read the other participants' written work and can ask relevant questions and lead a discussion at the seminar. The written work and the possible opponentship show something out of the ordinary (technical execution, oral presentation, mature reflections, and independent working methods)
