Objective

Student:
-can describe conditions for and challenges with the work regarding patient and client safety within the social and health care areas of activity
- knows the laws and recommendations regarding and the supervision of patient and client safety in Finland
- knows how digital systems ensure patient safety by predicting risks, risk management, reporting and follow-up
- can describe opportunities and challenges in ensuring client and patient safety when using digital e-Health services
- can describe what a safety culture entails when healthcare is digitized
- reflects on ethical positions for the patient / client in the digital world

Materials

All study material is available in the moodle course.

Teaching methods

Virtual course with recorded lectures on Moodle, discussions on the Moodle platform, written exercises.

Exam schedules

The course is examined through two smaller written assignments and a self-correcting test. All information is submitted no later than the end of the course.

Prerequisites before the course: THL's webcourse Patient safety through knowledge and skills.

In this course, Moodle acts as a platform where all the material is available: instructional videos, lecture materials, a list of the course objectives and content, course literature, instructions for assignments and so on.

The course lasts for six weeks, and consists of three parts (each part lasts for two weeks). It is therefore important to keep up and be active during the course.

The course material is partly in Swedish and partly in Finnish.

Criteria for evaluation of the exam
The student has a superficial knowledge of the subject (by heart reading)

Assessment criteria for written work
The student has followed the instructions and their knowledge of the other students' work is inadequate. The student shows limited substance knowledge, it can be essential.

The student shows insufficient knowledge about the other students' written work. The student has followed the instructions for the written work. They have a deficient knowledge of the substance also touching the essential.

The student can account for the literature, reflect and motivate his / her views

The student shows in his answer an in-depth knowledge and maturity beyond the traditional

Criteria for evaluation of written work individually or in groups
The student has followed the instructions for the written work and shows that she has mastered the substance. They have read the other participants' written work and can ask relevant questions and lead a discussion at the seminar. The written work and the possible opponentship show something out of the ordinary (technical execution, oral presentation, mature reflections, independent working methods)

Assessment methods and criteria

The course is assessed according to the scale 1-5. It is the assignments that are assessed, but e.g. a lively and reflective participation in the discussions can raise the grade.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

In order to obtain 1 (satisfactory), the participants should have helpfully performed the tasks with answers that meet the learning objectives.

In order to obtain 2 (extremely satisfactory), the participant should, in addition to what is stated for grades 1, have completed the course in a satisfactory manner and shown activity and own initiatives.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

In order to obtain 3 (good), the participant should have completed the course in a satisfactory manner and in his / her answers shown proof that he / she has read the literature and on the basis of this presented well-thought-out answers and actively participated in the discussions.

To obtain 4 (extremely good) the same things are required as for the grade 3, but the participant's answers show a greater depth, further own reflections in the tasks and a more lively activity in the discussions.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

To obtain 5 (praiseworthy) the participant should have completed the course and in their answers shown that he / she has read and understood the literature by presenting answers and comments that are excellent and include their own reflections. The participant should actively participate in the discussions, refer to a larger amount of scientific literature and be able to show how his / her knowledge has been deepened during the course.
