Objective
The student
- masters the quantitative and statistical basic concepts, and can analyze and apply descriptive statistics
- masters the basic concepts in the qualitative research methods and have knowledge of the most common methods for quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
- knows the research process and master the different phases of the research process. She / he can plan, organize and independently, but under supervision, conduct a degree project

- the different phases of the research process
- principles and requirements, data collection and analysis in quantitative and qualitative research
- qualitative content analysis
- descriptive statistics; probability theory and estimation, statistical inference
- hypothesis testing and bivariate connection tests

The first examination is held before the exercises in the computer room. All assignments must be submitted no later than the last day of the implementation.

Research methods, general part (3 cr.)
This part of the course is graded according to the scale 1-5 based on four shorter written assignments.
The research flan for the thesis and attendance at thesis seminars are graded according to the scale approved/not approved
Statistics (2 cr.)
This part of the course is graded according to the scale 1-5 based on a written assignment.
Student workload
27 h per credit: 81 h for research methods, general part, and 54 h for statistics, in total 135 h.

Research methods, general part (3 cr.)
- The student is expected to demonstrate knowledge of scientific methodology through an examination
- Research plan for the thesis
Statistics (2 cr.)
- Through an examination and a written assignment, the student's ability to understand and apply fundamental statistical concepts, and to perform a statistical analysis, is evaluated.

Research methods, general part (3 cr.)
- The student has insufficient knowledge of scientific methods
- The student has not presented an acceptable research plan.
Statistics (2 cr.):
The student does not understand and cannot apply statistical concepts and cannot perform an adequate statistical analysis.

The student has in the examination demonstrated a basic but very weak knowledge of scientific methods
Statistics (2 cr.):
Notable weaknesses are found in the student's understanding and application of statistical concepts, or the statistical analysis is not adequately performed.

The student has in the examination demonstrated an excellent knowledge of scientific methods
Statistics (2 cr.):
The student demonstrates a complete understanding of statistical concepts and makes only insignificant errors when applying them, and performs a statistical analysis without errors.
