Objective

The goals of this course is that the students:
- command the administration of medication needed for the job.
- understand their responsability in the administration of medication; rights, obligations, managing problem waste and risk waste, as well as developing their professionalism.

Content

1. Drug treatment
- Provisions concerning the supply of medicines
- The drug process, the rights of the social workers
- Administration of pharmaceutical forms given by natural means and subcutaneous injections
- The phases of the drug in the body
- The mechanisms of action of the drugs in the body
- Factors affecting the drug effect
- Recipes and compensation for medicines in the national health archive KanTa.fi
- Databases and the web portal for search of drugs (ex. Lääkeinfo.fi)
- Sustainable development in drug treatment

2. Calculation of drugs
- Solid and liquid form drugs given naturally
- Insulin indicated in international units
- Calculations of how long drug lasts
- Weight conversion - convert volume, weight and mass
- Solutions listed in mg / ml and in percent
- Liquid list, fluid balance
