Objective

The student
- understands what a well-functioning dairy cow production requires in terms of production control, animal care, production environment and feeding
- knows the factors that affect dairy cow and beef production and can optimize it
- can take into account requirements from authorities, intermediaries and processors as well as requests from consumers
- knows how the production facilities for cows should be designed taking into account the welfare and sustainable development of the animals.

Prerequisites for dairy cow and beef production
Origin, occurrence and distribution of different beef breeds in Finland
Grazing and landscaping
Impact of the slaughter classification on feeding and care, the difference between large heavy beef breeds and light beef breeds
Factors affecting the results of dairy cow and beef production
Optimization of dairy cow and beef production
The course is based on several of the global sustainability goals, mainly the goals of Responsible consumption and production and Life on land.
